HVALF Endorses Yousef Rabhi for Ann Arbor Mayor; Derek Dobies for Jackson Mayor; Dave Zeglen for AA Ward 4; Cynthia Harrison for AA Ward 1
Huron Valley Area, MI — At its March meeting, delegates from the 39 union locals composing the Huron Valley Area Labor Federation (HVALF) voted to endorse Yousef Rabhi for Ann Arbor Mayor and Derek Dobies for Jackson Mayor. At its April meeting, delegates voted to endorse Dave Zeglen for Ann Arbor City Council Ward 4, and Cynthia Harrison for Ann Arbor City Council Ward 1.
Rabhi is building his campaign around labor-centered solutions to Ann Arbor’s affordability crisis, strengthening public ownership, and insulating the city from abuses by the Trump administration. He has called for ending the city’s reliance on out-of-town consultants, limiting tax incentives for developers, and reversing the privatization of city services—including snow plowing, garbage collection, and leaf pickup.
In Jackson, Derek Dobies’ record as past Mayor and work with the Michigan AFL-CIO give him a firsthand understanding of how to fight for workers’ rights. From passing one of the region’s strongest Responsible Contracting policies to creating a Skilled Trades Task Force that put workers at the table in citywide decision-making, Dobies’s record is clear: he puts working families first.
In Ann Arbor City Council races, Dave Zeglen is an active union member and champion of policies that will expand access to housing, and support tenant and workers’ rights. Cynthia Harrison has worked closely with Sheriff Dyer on progressive prison reform. HVALF is proud to endorse both candidates.
