Affiliates

Unions are strongest when we act together.

What are Area Labor Federations?

Area Labor Federations (ALFs) are the regional bodies of the AFL-CIO. While international unions operate at the national level, ALFs are how we organize locally—through delegate bodies, solidarity actions, and community-rooted campaigns. When locals affiliate with an ALF like HVALF, they don’t just join a list—they help shape strategy, win fights, and protect working-class people in real time. Affiliating with HVALF means:

Rapid Response Infrastructure

From strikes to executive orders, we mobilize fast to support workers under attack

Political Clout

Through our Committee on Political Education (COPE), we screen candidates, make endorsements, and help elect pro-labor leaders who work for our members, not corporations

Shared Power, Strategy and Support

Campaign planning, media coordination, leadership development, and staff backup from HVALF staff. Together, we’ve won fights over contracts, public budgets, policy, and job security that no single local could win alone

A Seat at the Table

Each affiliated local sends delegates to vote on strategy, budgets, endorsements, and leadership. That means your members help lead the federation!

Affiliated Locals

Below is a list of our current affiliated union locals and their current delegates, updated as of April 2025.

Want to Affiliate?

If your local union’s members live and/or work in Washtenaw, Jackson, Livingston, or Hillsdale Counties and your local is not yet affiliated with HVALF, we invite you to join us. Affiliation strengthens your members' voice in the region, connects you to a growing solidarity network, and gives your union a seat at the table.
