Huron Valley ALF, AFL-CIO
How We Work
HVALF is a regional body of the AFL-CIO and was founded on April 1, 2016. It grew out of the Huron Valley Central Labor Council and now serves four counties: Washtenaw, Livingston, Jackson, and Hillsdale. As of 2025, HVALF includes 35 affiliated union locals representing over 21,000 members from the public sector, education, healthcare, service work, and beyond. Our federation is powered by:
Executive Board
Elected by delegates, board members provide direction and coordination between delegate and committee meetings
Delegate Body
As representatives from each affiliated local, delegates govern HVALF and lead decision-making at monthly meetings
Committees
Where most of our organizing, political, and campaign work happens, committees are are open to all union members from affiliated locals
HVALF Staff
Communications Coordinator and Field Organizer, Mark Tallents, manages HVALF’s digital footprint and works with the Huron Valley Worker Organizing and Research Center (HV-WORC) to coordinate labor and community organizing across Southeast Michigan.
Our staff coordinate regionally with partners like the United Way, local Labor Councils, community organizations, and more.
