Officers and Executive Board Overview:
As of April 2025, the HVALF Executive Board includes officers, representatives of our largest affiliate union, at-large members, trustees, and diversity representatives to ensure inclusive and representative leadership.

President
Ian Robinson (AFT-MI 6244)
Ian Robinson has served as President of the Huron Valley Area Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, since 2014 and became Interim President of the Sweatfree Purchasing Consortium in 2022. From 2016–2021, he was President of LEO (AFT-MI 6244), representing non-tenure faculty and staff at the University of Michigan, where he has taught and researched since 1998. A founding member of LEO’s organizing committee, his research focuses on labor conditions, neoliberal globalization, trade policy alternatives, and ethical consumption. He teaches courses on globalization, social change, and organizing.
Vice President
Michelle Deatrick (UAW 2320)
Michelle Regalado Deatrick is a policy analyst, farmer, writer, and poet committed to economic and climate justice. She serves as SE Michigan contact for the National Writers Union, is a UAW Local 2320 member, and was a spokesperson for Michigan One Fair Wage. Founder and Chair of the DNC Environment and Climate Crisis Council, she also established Washtenaw County’s first Environmental Council and serves on national climate advisory boards. A former Washtenaw County Commissioner, she holds degrees from Wesleyan, Harvard, and the University of Michigan, and lives with her family on an 80-acre farm near Ann Arbor.

Denise Bailey (NALC 434)
Denise Bailey has been active in the local labor movement since 2007. She is passionate about advocating for her fellow workers, building power, and promoting solidarity across the region. She lives in Ypsilanti with her daughter.
Treasurer
Ted McTaggart (MNA-UMPNC)
Ted McTaggart is a registered nurse at the University of Michigan. He is currently the dispute chair for MNA-UMPNC and an at-large member of the Michigan Nurses Association Board of Directors; since 2013 he has served in numerous union leadership capacities at the state and local level, including stints serving as treasurer of both his local and state union.
